Primary Verses:
-
Exodus 18:22-26
-
"And let them judge the people
at all seasons: and
it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring
unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge:
so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear
the burden with thee. If thou shalt do this thing, and
God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure,
and all this people shall also go to their place in
peace. So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in
law, and did all that he had said. And Moses chose able
men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the
people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers
of fifties, and rulers of tens. And they judged the
people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto
Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves."
- Deuteronomy 1:17
-
"Ye shall not respect persons in
judgment; but ye
shall hear the small as well as the great;
ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the
judgment is God's:
and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto
me, and I will hear it."
-
Deuteronomy 17:8-9
-
"If there arise a matter too
hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood,
between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke,
being matters of controversy within thy gates:
then shalt thou
arise, and get thee up into the place which YHVH thy God
shall choose; And thou shalt come unto
the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall
be in those days, and enquire; and they shall shew thee
the sentence of judgment:"
Supporting Verses:
-
Romans 13:1-7
-
"Let every soul be subject unto
the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the
powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore
resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and
they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the
evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that
which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if
thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth
not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God,
a revenger to execute
wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath,
but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye
tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending
continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to
all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom
to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom
honour."
