Primary Verses:
-
Lev. 19:15
-
Deut. 1:16-17
-
"And I charged your judges at
that time, saying, Hear the causes between your
brethren, and judge
righteously between every man and his brother,
and the stranger that is with him. Ye shall not respect
persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well
as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man;
for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too
hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it."
Supporting Verses:
-
Deut. 16:18-20
-
"Judges and officers shalt
thou make thee in all thy gates, which YHVH thy God
giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and
they shall judge the
people with just judgment. Thou shalt
not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons,
neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of
the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous. That
which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou
mayest live, and inherit the land which YHVH thy God
giveth thee."
-
Deut. 25:1-3
-
"If there be a controversy
between men, and they come unto judgment, that the
judges may judge them; then
they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be
beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and
to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by
a certain number. Forty stripes he may give him, and
not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him
above these with many stripes, then thy brother should
seem vile unto thee."
-
2 Chron. 19:5-7
-
"And he set judges in the land
throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by
city, And said to the judges,
Take heed what ye do:
for ye judge not for man, but for YHVH, who is with you
in the judgment. Wherefore now let the
fear of YHVH be upon you; take heed and do it: for there
is no iniquity with YHVH our God, nor respect of
persons, nor taking of gifts."
-
Prov. 31:9
-
Jer. 22:3
-
"Thus saith YHVH;
Execute ye judgment
and righteousness, and deliver the
spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and
do no wrong,
do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the
widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place."
